Virgo

8th and Front Street in downtown Boise, ID.
2014

Amy Westover with McKibben+Cooper Architects, Aarons International
Eco Art on 8th Projects commissioned by CCDC and Boise City Public Works Dept.

Virgo is a site specific public art project permanently installed at the intersection of 8th and Front Streets in downtown Boise. The night sky above Boise on the Autumnal Equinox, September 21, 2014, is mapped in a large public plaza as well as crosses the street on 8th and continues across the street on Front. One of the busiest and most light filled intersections in Boise, the artwork draws attention to issues of light pollution and beckons visitors to contemplate the stars, as the cosmos can most directly help us remember that we are on a very unique and possibly the only life-sustaining planet.

Virgo is one of three public art installations for the Eco-Art on 8th Project; an initiative to enliven 8th St. with public art on every corner that addresses the environment, sustainability and ecology.
